So beautifully written. I was born into the faith of the Catholic Church so it was only recently I discovered many churches did not celebrate Ash Wednesday and Lent and I am sad for them. There is something so beautiful being so steeped in tradition that draws us out of ourselves with a public marking to prepare us for the preparation for both Good Friday and Easter Sunday. You are always welcome in a Catholic Church! ๐๐ป
โThe rapidity with which this dreaminess dissipated was yet another reminder that every season is simply that โ a season. โ thank you for this! As someone who is trying to figure out my writing, voice and ministry in my next season this deeply resonates!
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent preparing for the remembrance of Jesusโ death and resurrection. Not so much the fasting. I always do a Lenten devotion and now I have a Pascha to Pentecost to do after as well.
Has to look that one up. I use Jonathan Gibsonโs devotional books and thought that was a Lent one but it starts after Easter. Based on the an Orthodox calendar.

Kristy, I do think we protestants miss something when we don't exactly follow the liturgical calendar! Thanks for your kind words here!
