Selah Moments: Good Reading for a Quiet December
Links to Recommended Reading; Readers Share Their Sunsets
Part of what I enjoy doing here at The Quiet Contrarian is to share some of the best reading I have encountered on the Internet.
But first, I recently invited readers to share some of their favorite sunrises or sunsets, and I loved what you sent in!
Savoring God’s Beauty…
(P.S. If you sent in a picture and I somehow missed it, let me know so I can share it next time!)
Some words that made me pause and reflect more deeply…
Here’s some good reading for a quiet December.
“Behind Closed Doors” by Mary Harrington at Reactionary Feminist (I appreciate what Mary shares here; her thoughts coincide with similar themes I have written on here and here.)
“The best thing I learned at school can’t be replaced by AI. It requires hours of repetition — and good grip” by Vivienne Pearson (I can give a hearty “Amen!” to this.)
“Filtering Your Input” by Linda Washington at The Sage Forum (This is another helpful reminder of the importance of limiting our inputs.)
“Tell Me Something True” by Kristin Couch (As a new empty nester, I enjoyed reminiscing those early mom years with this piece, and I especially appreciated her final conclusion.)
“The Christian X-odus” by Kate Lucky (Some good thoughts here about the ever-changing landscape we find online.)
“Is the Trauma Narrative Helpful?” by Beth Claes (I appreciated this balanced reflection, especially in light of what I’ve written about trauma here and here.)
“Smartphones Have Turbocharged the Danger of Porn” by Mary Harrington (I mostly discuss the effects of social media, but this conversation by Mary Harrington is so critical to understanding what our youth are experiencing today, as testified in this personal essay.)
“The Impact of Social Media on Youth Mental Health” ~ a summary of the 2023 U.S. Surgeon Report ~ by Reformed Youth Ministries (It is important to understand how social media is impacting the younger generations.)
Shalom.

Oh, Denise! So grateful for your mending. He is a miracle working God.
Thank you for sharing your good reads. Beth Claes has a gift of deep, but understandable writing. I look forward to reading her work.
And the articles about children and pornography were eye-opening for this Mimi with two pre-teen grands who are attached to their phones🙁 Lord knows we need Him desperately in these times!
So thankful you are doing better Denise. You have been in my prayers. Love you book and I am currently rereading it. It truly is my favorite book of 2023.
